City Proclamation in Honor

of FBCP 150th Anniversary


PROCLAMATION


    PROCLAIMING July, 2015, AS “FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF PINCKNEYVILLE SESQUICENTENNIAL MONTH” IN PERRY COUNTY, ILLINOIS ON THE OCCASION OF THEIR 150TH ANNIVERSARY.


    WHEREAS, First Baptist Church of Pinckneyville has roots beginning in 1865 when a group of nine consecrated individuals gathered in the Old Temperance Hall on South Main Street for the purpose of organizing a Baptist Church; and
   

WHEREAS, in February, 1866, before the church was one year old, the Sunday School was organized, which also met in the Old Temperance Hall; and
   

WHEREAS, on March 29, 1868, the church was incorporated, taking the name of the First Baptist Church of Pinckneyville; and
   

WHEREAS, on December 27, 1868 a new church building, familiarly known as the Old Brick, was dedicated as the house of Worship for First Baptist Church of Pinckneyville; and
    WHEREAS, on January 31, 1907, the Illinois Baptist State Association was organized at First Baptist Church of Pinckneyville; and
   

WHEREAS, on June 5, 1955, First Baptist Church of Pinckneyville dedicated a new 100 room educational building; and
   

WHEREAS, throughout the 1950s, the membership of First Baptist Church of Pinckneyville continued to grow, a new Sanctuary was dedicated on May 1, 1960; and
    WHEREAS, during its 150 year history, First Baptist Church of Pinckneyville has been instrumental in spreading the Gospel by planting and nurturing more than twenty churches; and
    WHEREAS, through the years, First Baptist Church of Pinckneyville has helped support many of our own members when they have served on the mission fields and participated in short-term mission trips; and
   

WHEREAS, First Baptist Church of Pinckneyville continues to be an active congregation committed to evangelism and discipleship; now therefore
   

BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE PINCKNEYVILLE CITY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS, IN REGULAR SESSION ASSEMBLED, that we hereby set aside July, 2015, as “First Baptist Church of Pinckneyville Month” to recognize and commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the First Baptist Church of Pinckneyville this ________ day of ___________, 2015.
